Overall, six women will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a March 18 banquet. Three are Coastsiders.
“The Coastside is a center of gravity for San Mateo County. A lot of innovative, exciting things are going on on the coast,” said inductee Kerry Lobel of Pescadero. “The awards really show that this is the case.”

Impartial judges from outside the county read nominations anonymously.
Inductees are honored for outstanding contributions to their professions, generous work as volunteers or both.
In 1992, a second category, “Young Women of Excellence,” was added to recognize high school juniors, seniors or the equivalent, and to spotlight young women’s accomplishments in community service, academics and acts of courage in daily life.
Local honorees include:
**Denise Aquila of Half Moon Bay, nicknamed the “Coastal Soccer Queen” for bringing professional-level soccer to high school students as a founder of a American Youth Soccer Organization chapter. She also serves as a commissioner for the Regional Housing Endowment and Trust to help create local affordable housing, addresses family violence as an Advisory Council Member of Communities Overcoming Relationship Abuse. She is a cancer survivor who raises funds for cancer research by running marathons.
**Kerry Lobel of Pescadero, executive director of Puente de la Costa Sur Resource Center, which is nationally recognized for developing programs for South Coast immigrant agricultural workers and their families. Through her work she also offers opportunities for empowerment, education, youth summer employment, mental health services, drug and alcohol prevention, legal services, tax preparation and access to dental care.
**Julia McKeon of Moss Beach, a catalyst for improving health care and quality of life through volunteer and leadership resulting in the Sonrisas Community Dental Center and two other health-related nonprofits serving low-income Coastside residents.
The award banquet will be held in the grand ballroom of the South San Francisco Conference Center, 255 South Airport Blvd., South San Francisco.
